Giving Thanks and Turkey Time

Happy Thanksgiving, peanut butter lovers!

I hope you are all enjoying a restful (and tasty) weekend with family and friends. I have been thinking a lot over the past few days about giving thanks in preparation for this blog post and none of my ideas felt quite right…Finally this afternoon, somewhere between the studying and the silliness at my friend’s place, this quote from the Catechism of the Catholic Church was shared with me:

As in the prayer of petition, every event and need can become an offering of thanksgiving. The letters of St. Paul often begin and end with thanksgiving, and the Lord Jesus is always present in it: “Give thanks in all circumstances; for this is the will of God in Christ Jesus for you”; “Continue steadfastly in prayer, being watchful in it with thanksgiving.”

CCC 2638

It really struck me because of its simplicity. We are called to be thankful in everything, to thank God for the good in every situation. This holiday can serve as a reminder that as Christians, we must work to cultivate dispositions of thankfulness throughout the year.

The Lord has given me life in abundance. This weekend I get to revel in that!
